They are looking great! About what age do they start flowering?

I recently purchased a bunch of seed for this species, so Hopefully I'll have good germination. Also, I saw 5 gallon specimens for about $35, does anyone know if that is a good price?

Can’t say on the flowering. $35 is a hell of a deal on a 5 gallon. I needed another one for this new berm I was planting this year and out of necessity lol, paid $75 for a 3 gallon. Worth it to me, was the only local option, anything mail order close to that size was double that price at least. $35 all day long though.

I might have to go back and buy one this week; I was looking for Y.rigida and Y.rostrata in 1 to 3 gallons, but struck out. I think the 7 gallons were under $50.

Rigida is a must imo. In the pic above in the rock bed there’s a rigida to the left of that rostrata. Put some pine needles around it this last winter. We went down to 8f and we’re below freezing for almost a week, ice, snow. That happened 3 times last winter and not a touch of damage on it.

I’m jealous of the agaves, the winters are too wet here for agaves outside. The Trachies look great as well!!!

Not here, we have some of the worst clay muck and if you just set an Agave neomexicana in a dry area, I bet it’ll grow fine.

Yeah you’re absolutely correct. I think I have like 25 different agaves planted now, all in raised beds high and dry.

Didn’t do an update last year…here’s one for 2024. Gaining noticeable height each year now. IMG_9573.thumb.jpeg.126e2b77006b70c52c7fe0073b895f8c.jpeg

Got a trim today. I think they looked better before I cut them this time, but need to get some more sun to all the little cactus and agaves in the bed under them.

These about 9 years old?  They seem to have grown quickly.  Any fertilizers used?  Very nice!

I guess right around 11 years old now. Definitely fast over all. Really take off when they get some trunk, they add about a foot of height every year now.  Trying to think back and remember I’m pretty sure I only spread some slow release fertilizer in that bed one time only.

I have a measly 2 agaves right now, but I also find yuccas very interesting and fitting as companion plants. Thinking about taking my chances with an 8$ filamentosa next year, might it be worth it?
