Going to Maui

Oct 14-19.  $278 round trip, Orlando to Kahului!

(must-purchase by Aug 6, available thru Travelocity, Orbitz.  Tip was from Airfare Watchdog.  This fare was NOT available through ATA or SWA).

Now to figure out the details.  Great excuse to pursue that all-vegan low-fat diet so as not to look like a blimp at the beach.

Dave,

That's an unbelievable opportunity! And maybe a quick sidetrip from Maui to the Big Island? ???

Bo, that's already entered my mind.  The whole thing was unexpected (I'm still planning to be at the cycad conference in Panama in January).

I think the first priorities will be to visit Haleakala National Park and the National Tropical Botanical Garden near Hana.

This is all assuming there no hurricane.  We were attacked by Jeanne in mid-October three years ago.

I'm a biologist.  Hawaii is the world's greatest showcase for evolution on isolated islands.  Maui's famous for silversword plants.  Plus cool geology and Hawaiian culture (the botanical garden has the largest surviving heiau in Polynesia).  http://ntbg.org/gardens/kahanu.php
