Soil Heating Cables

Recommended Posts

First time poster here. I live in zone 6B and planted some Windmill Palms (south facing). I am thinking of burying some soil warming cables and have them set to automatically turn on at 32F and off at 50-60F.  Have any of you had success with this method?

In 6B you just need mulch 4-6 inches deep 18 inches around palm.  No cables.

Yeah, even in my 5a, where the soil freezes, I put mulch along with my protection and the palm's soil didn't freeze.

I have used them on many of my in the ground palms, but mostly as a emergency back up to Christmas lights trying to keep root zone warm.
