Veitchia Arecina with wet feet?

Featured Replies

I live 8 miles inland San Diego, I've a spot I'd like to consider a nice small Veitchia Arecina I have but it's poor draining and not sure if this will be accepted by this palm.  Have others had any experience with this palm in that sort of condition?

@SDMort Welcome to PalmTalk!  I have a bunch of them in soggy Central Florida.  They seem to like having perpetually moist soil here.  Others may have different experiences.

Thanks for the feedback.  Akamu: yes I have the lovely clay / rock underlying soils here in PQ but most of my area is well amended, my problem is drainage or lack thereof!  Once you get down a foot you're in that clay zone where nothing drains.  I have plenty of palms that don't mind this condition at all and are thriving, but no experience with the Montgomery Palm.  I have a veithcia spiralus in the front in somewhat similar conditions and seems to be doing well.
