Newly installed Sabal palmetto with frost in forecast

Hi,

I just installed two hurricane cut Sabal palmettos in my yard two weeks ago. We are supposed to get down to 29 tonight. Should I protect them since they're not established? This is a record low and an unexpected late frost for my zone 8a area.

Thanks!

Shouldn't be a problem but the palms will need 1-2 years to be fully growing well.

When I planted them I saw new roots growing and they have some emerging fronds already. I think they sat on the lot a while after being dug from Florida.

@Brad Mondel think of it this way, the root ball is going to be far more insulated in the ground than it would have been exposed on the nursery's lot

2 days after being planted. Didn’t phase them a bit.

Temps should rebound quickly so they will laugh off that wimpy chill. These are tough palms

I have wrapped the top with burlap just to be on the safe side.

It was chilly this morning even down here. I think I hit 34 but the breeze was going so no frost. Tonight we might get some.

This morning there was medium frost and we're supposed to get more tonight. After tonight we should be in the clear!
