Hey Everyone, How long should I wait for Windmill Palms to germinate, I started January 16th and only half of them sprouted. Others don't even have a root nub. How long should i wait before I discard them?

Thanks a lot

At what temperature are the seeds being kept?

On Jan 21st I planted 100 seeds in plastic covered containers in my green house At I keep at 26c and spray light water mist on once a week and so far I’ve had 10 sprout up, got the seeds from Banana Joe on Salt Spring Island I got other seeds from EBay 1000 and not 1 has sprouted yet

I’d give it some more time. Palm seeds are notoriously difficult and erratic to germinate. Looks like you have already had pretty good germination, you must be doing something right so keep it up!

My last batch of fresh local windmill palm seed I collected germinated in a time span from 1 week to 6 months for reference.

That's who I got mine from as well. I always have had bad experiences buying seeds from Ebay :(

Not to be too contradictory to other users, but i have always germinated my windmill palms at room temperature with good success.

Also, just noticed you live in NW Ontario. I lived in Thunder Bay for 6 years, I do miss the fishing and endless opportunities for pond hockey out there. Not exactly a palm-friendly part of the world, but windmills should do well there in the warmer months as long as they have a nice home in the winter.

Just curious, what was the temperature range?

Whatever the temperature is in my house, which can range from 16-25C depending on woodstove ususage, me being out of town, etc... Mostly I try and keep it around 20C but its quite variable.

Yes windmills need no heat to germinate and I suspect probably do better without it.
