Hey everyone! I’m new here, but just went through the Texas freeze and have been trying to work my palms back into shape. I have 4 Mexican fan palms that are roughly 6’ tall, and all have had their spears pull except one. I can access and see into all 4 crowns with a ladder, and I’ve been treating with Hydrogen Peroxide and Copper Fungicide once. My questions are:

1. on the three that had spear pulls, I’ve noticed a white fuzzy mold growing in the crown, I’ve been hitting it with hydrogen peroxide every other day, and have also already used copper fungicide once, however the peroxide doesn’t seem to be draining and it’s just filling up the crown, I know you are meant to keep the crowns dry and clear of debris, but it just seems to sit there and I’m worried it’s doing more harm than good. I tried a Turkey baster to try and get it out but the crown is just too deep... any other suggestions or am I just fighting a lost cause?

2. on the one that the spears won’t pull the fronds that are there and brown but we’re still emerging have like a black powdery mold on them, tried coppper fungicide but it didn’t appear to do much, should I just leave it?

Tyler: With the copper solution mixed in with the hydrogen peroxide pool, I wouldn't worry about it. That's a toxic environment for the bacteria, fungus and viruses. Won't hurt the palm. All mine are in the same position. I've rode this bull many times before.

How do you keep the crown dry then though? If it’s filled with copper fungicide it stays wet in there.

It stays wet. Hard to rot without bacteria and fungus. It'll dry out between rains.  Just don't stress.

Hi guys. I adopted my Mexican fan palm when I bought the house 5 years ago. I’ve trimmed yearly and kept her comfortable during winter with heat lamps. When the electricity went out this time, obviously the heat lamps failed. I’ve got a 20

foot Palm with a collection of dead fronds and three sticking out of the top. I know nothing of this solution you are talking about. I know the crown is up there and that it could be dead, but I’ve been told to be patient. What does “spear pull” mean? Any info would be appreciated.
