So I know we have discussed this many times . Ive got a ton of fresh Jubaeopsis seed I picked over the weekend and spoke with a few different people on germination . Any experiences and best practices for germinating these?. I was told they prefer a cooler germination .

No wisdom here, but congratulations for your excellent haul.

If you have any leftover, let me know, I'd love to grow some of those.

Was this from a local tree in SoCal? I’d be interested in some also if you’re going to share/sell.

Wow, that's a big batch! They can be relatively pricey to get hold of I found...

I had some recent success after dividing up the ones I got into different germination methods:

1) On sphagnum moss, in a tray, no bottom heat but near a sunny window: 50% success so far.

2) In a bag with Sphagnum moss, near but not directly on heat source: only tried one seed, and it was first to germinate (100% success).

3) On sphagnum moss, in a tray, on a heat mat, 24 hours a day: 0% success so far.

So, yes, they seem to prefer not direct heat, and certainly not 24 hours a day.

Look forward to hearing about how you get on!

Had you already cleaned off the yellow fruit?  Did you soak these in water for some time?  Were these still in a seed cluster attached to the palm or on the ground?  Did you "de-lid" these prior to sowing?  How did germination go for you?  I enjoy hearing success stories on the more difficult species.

The seed got cleaned and soaked for 2 days then all of them got thrown into a community tub . And kept the tub covered on the side of my house

They need an incredibly free draining mix to prevent damping off. I’ve used almost pure perlite in the early stages with these with success. Too much organic matter and they can damp off quick.

Yeah lots and lots of pumice in this mix . Was worried about the same thing so I have one that I dump to check it’s status until it shoots a spear . Dumped it today they have a nice thick marker size root and are splitting open Revealing a spear now . Matter of weeks I’m hoping have about 15 to 20

of them out of 200 seed . Still leaving the others hoping they sprout .
