Cyrtostachys hybrids - Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens Sale

Recommended Posts

Hauled the family to the PSL Botanical Garden sale today. Thank God my wife was with me, If she hadn’t, I may have bought one of these Cyrtostachys hybrids. I didn’t get a chance to speak with the seller or catch the vendor name as the sky opened up and it poured rain. The big one was $2250. I’ve seen lipstick palms but this was the first time seeing the hybrid, really cool.

How much were they asking for the one you posted?  I bought a 3 gallon about a year ago from South Florida

You know I'd have to immediately check this thread out!  Now that I read the details, I'm priced out, haha.

I would be in the doghouse if I had bought it.
The top pic was $2250, bottom pic was around $1050.

The sale was small but this vendor had a nice selection. I’m curious what you paid, Eric? If you don’t mind?

I’ve only seen 15G for sale and they are usually 3.5 - 4 foot tall.  $1800

Do these have red new leaves? I've got two of them, from Floridbunda, but neither show any color in the trunk yet, only in the leaves.

I paid $300 and took a 5 hour drive to get it lol.  Not much color yet, but it has been in the ground for about a year now so hopefully I will see it start to take off.

That's seems like a great deal! Did you protect the palm during our cold spell a couple weeks ago?

The coldest it got here was 38 maybe?  I didn't do anything to it....I was told these hybrids are good closer to low 30s so I left it alone.  It did fine and just opened another frond a few days ago.

Does anyone know the vendor name? Would be interested in the size Eric picked up.

I think you are onto something there!

I should have stocked up when I bought my "Lime Lipstick" as they were called plant back in 2009 as a one foot tall little clump for $25.  At the time I had no knowledge of the hybrid and thought I was getting Cyrtostachys elegans.
