Possibly the best yard in Va Beach

Found some really good stuff in Va Beach. The largest Agave i've ever seen, along with some Sabal Palmetto, Trachys, an old sago, and a nice silver Pindo.

Does anyone know exactly where this is? Supposedly in Virginia Beach, this picture is on the Wikipedia page for the Lago Mar neighborhood of Virginia Beach. The palmettos are HUGE but the houses certainly look like VA Beach. The article also has some other pics of palms in the area including a Washingtonia filifera, which is sadly now dead, and some naturalized or possible native Sabal minor that was mentioned in a different thread. Does anyone know the specific location of the palms in the first image below? Thanks and take care!

Google Maps street view shows it has died sadly:

Beautiful neighborhood indeed! Could those be the tallest palmettos in VA Beach?

I stumbled across that place while on a trip in VA beach in September 2019.  Certainly among the healthiest Palmetto in VB and that sago is huge20190920_174348_HDR(1)_(1).thumb.jpg.a7ce49b17409ac331452b5e656d1979f.jpg

If a pindo can survive there long term, I'm inspired to try one here in my Raleigh NC garden. Anyone else have any luck with Pindo in zone 7B?

You might wanna give it mulch and wrapping in the very worst freezes. They are less hardy than sabal palmetto and VA beach is quite a bit warmer than Raleigh.

@Will Simpson Has one in Winston Salem. According to him, protection is rarely necessary but good placement (south facing wall) is helpful. Thinking about putting one in the ground here in Greensboro this spring. I’ve seen some massive specimens in Charlotte, but they’re technically 8a.

You ought to see the A. americana growing in shade by my house.  I'm 5'10" and it's easily a foot taller than me.  I'll see if I can get a pic soon.

How can you keep palms dry in the winter? I am planning an Agave Montana in a sheltered location, as I hear they are very hardy and tolerant of humidity. I will cover it, obviously.
