Hi everyone...I have noticed over the years that in heavy wind my Canary Palm fronds break in the center (especially the past two days)....What is interesting is that my neighbors do not have the breakage for the same size trees?...Go figure?

My tree is healthy and green (use spikes twice a year)  but do you think its a deficiency that may make the fronds unstable or weak?

Thanks

The breaks do seem unusual.  Your palm has a remarkably large amount of ferns growing in its crown.  Such fern "infestation" is common in humid climates, but I'm not sure it is "normal".  If your neighbors palms do not break, and do not have (as many) ferns, then I would consider cleaning those out.  This would not be a pleasant job, and if you do this, then I recommend you wear eye protection.

Thanks...most Canarys have ferns it seems in my area and I dont scalp my tree as you can see...It does need a cleaning but not sure that has anything to do with frons breaking
