I’ve had the privilege of  germinating these seeds for a good friend that resides up north,   It’s a newly named species, Dypsis mijoroana, I know of 3 other mature trees in Hawaii, I’ll give regular updates on this thread

Looking forward to seeing your updates. These are amazing palms. 2 of the 3 gardens that I known of here on the Big Island that have them are seeding. I’m sure the 3rd isn’t far behind. It will be great to have these available to more palm growers in the near future.

The photo looks like a very attractive palm.  Since I don't know which Dypsis are native to different parts of the island, I will ask the naive question as to whether there is any indication if this will survive in Mediterranean climates like Southern California.  My hope is that there might be some indication based on whether there is overlap in habitat with species that are known to survive here.

Jason, I assume that one that you refer to is Jeff Marcus's collection?

@comic097Please give an update. What’s the status of the seedlings? These are beautiful palms.

Pretty sure this one is Dypsis Nauseosa. Or at least it was before the names were changed recently. More regular style leaflets on Nauseosa compared to the plumose leaflets on Mijoroana

A good friend of mine and I have had many discussions about this palm. He said that he red in a Palm book that lasteliana can come in a plumose form and he thinks it is nothing but that but who knows
