Given December, I'm expecting a cold January. However, the 10 day forecast doesn't show anything close to freezing.

FWIW, I'll start a new thread for a January freeze watch once I see something that warrants it. 

NOAA's 30-90 day outlook is also for above average temps.

I bottomed out at 36F
I stayed up all night with friends around a fire, I observed clouds forming overhead around midnight and building throughout the morning which appeared to have helped with slowing the temp drop and eventually raising it before sunrise.

I’m not sure it went below 40F here on the second night. Might have been  39 or 38 at some point. Who knows. At any rate, no heliconias bit the dust from frost or freeze from this cold spell. There is some generalized yellowing and spotting on some stuff like Adonidia and Dypsis cabidae which happens anyway in the winter no matter if there is a freeze or not. Foxtails, coconuts, royal, bottle, spindle and Dypsis lutescens all look as good as ever. I got lucky on this one. Clouds and breeze moved in. I have a feeling we have a rough 2.5 months ahead of us..

We'll have to see.  After this year, nothing surprises me at this point haha

Don’t mean to answer for @JLM, but there’s a really interesting weather pattern setting up (pacific jet extension interacting with a -NAO, if you wanted material to google).  This pattern is something we haven’t really seen since winter 2010-2011, but it’s difficult to determine what it will mean at a local level. The pattern tends to favor snow in the NE if you’re into that sort of thing.
