My Favorite Palm Tree Commercial

Featured Replies

It's that time of year again!  This marks the 30th anniversary of the release of Corona's "Christmas Tree" ad.  And, appropriately enough in the year of the Corona virus (no affiliation).  It's the second longest running TV commercial that has been shown every year in the US since 1990.  Always has been one of my favorites.  Merry Christmas everyone!

Its definitely a classic. I didn't know how old it was but I knew its been around since I was a kid. The other seasonal ad that seems to have been around forever is the Hershey kisses being played like bells.

That's it Harlan - I read that the Hershey ad was the longest running.

The only one of my palms that could support a set of lights is my little Washy. Maybe this could be a Tecate ad :floor:

The thorns really help, don't they?  It's funny that when this commercial came out I was decorating my container Phoenix roebelenii with mini-lights like yours.  Living in Atlanta, GA at the time it had to be in a container.

Always reminds me of Home alone 2, even if the movie came out 2 years after the commercial.

I do believe that this is the first time I've seen it.  LOL

Great commercial.

I absolutely butchered my hands wrapping it lol. As far as I'm concerned, it can stay lit up all year. They're LED lights so I'm not worried about heat or my electric bill.

That makes sense. I am 39 and don't remember a holiday season without these 2 ads being on TV.

the palms were nice the only thing that turned me off was that it was a beer commercial im muslim we dont drink

Great commercial!

Every time I hear that tune in the background, I know the lighted Palm is coming. When I first noticed the commercials (the original and the newer one with the hard seltzer) popping up a few weeks ago, I went in search of the first Forum topic about it, but I can't find it. The topic included background and history on the original commercial.

- The newer commercial... I wish that glass with the light-up Palm tree was real, I would get ten of them...

Agree.  Funny, for the longest time I always imagined that they filmed this somewhere in south FL - then I noticed the mountains in the background!  So much for that idea!  I guess I always focused on the left side where the lit palm was and ignored the right side.

I have always seen these commercials but never payed much attention to them. Didnt know they had been around that long!

I was also curious about the location, and figured for the Corona brand, it had to be somewhere in Mexico. Did a search and found this:
