I purchased this palm as licuala aurantiaca aka the golden licuala and planted it about 3yrs ago . It has started to get some of the yellowish color on the petiols. Not a ton of info on these. What do you guys think is it the real deal.

Nice little Licuala! I never noticed that they had teeth on their petioles. But then again I never payed much attention to the genus other than they have some cool fronds! If I can't grow it I don't obsess over it :floor:

Hesperia,Southern CA (High Desert area). Zone 8b

Elevation; about 3600 ft.

Lowest temp. I can expect each year 19/20*f lowest since I've been growing palms *13(2007) Hottest temp. Each year *106

Sure looks like the pictures of them that I have I searched. Interesting that their leaves are used for making sticky rice wraps as well :)

How large was it when you planted it 3 yrs ago?

I'm new to this whole licuala-identifation thing, but I'd agree that if the above mentioned licualas it looks more like paludosa. I can't tell it from paludosa. I suspect you are right.

It's probably the real thing. I've seen paludosa, the one I get my seeds from. It looks like a spinosa with larger leaves, and far less suckers. And also, not all of the petioles turn orange-ish colored.

Thanks for your input most of the pictures I have seen are larger ones but I think it's the real deal.

It was a large 1gal when planted and has grown pretty fast. It might get more orange if it was in more sun and a little  more water. These things grow in swamps from what I have read and can be in water for up to 6 months . It's still a young one so time will tell.  These are beautiful Palms. I would love to see larger ones if anyone has any pictures they would like to share
