Trachycarpus Takil does not grow after frost damage. HELP!

Hi,

In my Trachycarpus Takil, the growth cone died after spring frosts. I took the frozen cone out, dug it out of the ground and put it in a pot. I have recently checked the roots and they are ok (i noticed new white roots). Nevertheless, the palm tree has not been sprouting new leaves for half a year ... Can you recommend something to starting growth in this palm tree?

I don't think there is much you can do but wait.  If it's still green I'd say its still alive.

You need to squeeze the trunk and see if it's rotten and see if the base is loose/rotten at soil level by rocking.  If so it's gone

I also forgot to tell you that the only Trachycarpus I've ever had spear pull was a takil as well.  I pulled the spear in late winter, and a few months later new growth was pushing out.

Has it been fertilized?

I would pour hydrogen peroxide into the crown cavity do kill any bacteria and fungus. Also if you are brave enough you could cut the trunk a bit to find green growth. I've cut about 4 inches of trunk off of one of my frost damaged pygmy dates that had spear pull. I cut chunks of trunk off until I found live tissue and once I did the palm immediately shot up new growth

hello, I flooded the cone with 1% H2O2 solution.  I also watered the roots with a 0.2% solution.  Steve in Florida The palm was fertilized with Palm Focus.  If the H2O2 treatment does not help, I am ready to cut the trunk, although it is very small, 5-10 cm ... :crying:

The leaves are still open so it may be alive....you may want to check the undersides

for spider mites, possibly they are zapping it and slowing its recovery down.

You will probably have to wait until next year since it seems likely the roots were damaged and unable to provide enough nutrients for new growth.  Trunk cutting is always a last resort and usually a death sentence for a small seedling in shock with damaged roots.

I would not trunk cut a palm that small unless you see the leaves dying.

In the process of cutting you would probably tear up the roots.
