Back in 2008 approx I photographed what I believe is a Coco de mer palm growing at Flamingo Gardens in Davie, Florida.  Photo below. Beautiful gardens there.  Can any Floridians verify if this specimen succumbed to the freeze in south Florida in winter of 2009 approx?  I remember vacationing down there and no longer seeing this palm in its spot.  I noticed that The coconut palms had cold damage even deep in Everglades, entrance to thousand islands park area (south of Naples) so figured was a devastating cold snap all over FL that year.  Does Fairchild have one of these coco de mer palms?

I heard it's no more. Wonder how the one in Cooper City is doing with our friend? :interesting:

What a bummer! I'm surprised there wouldn't be more concentrated protection for such an elusive species.

Oh, did trees/heavy debris fall on it and crush it during a storm?
