Have you noticed a difference in growth rate between those and musa basjoo?

Thanks ,

The Mekongs  take a while to establish , but once they are , and you get a mild winter with nothing much below 20F , the go nuts .

I haven't watered or fertilized these at all , and they are growing  insane right now .

@NC_Palm_Enthusiast @Will Simpson I planted a mekong the end of March this year that was somewhere in the neighborhood of 4 feet tall. The first pic is when i got it in the ground, the others are from a minute ago. I moved 2 of them to different locations which is why there are 3 in the first pic. If i stand the leaf straight up it's over 10 feet tall. Metal rake against the trunk for reference.

I have 3 musa basjoo planted as well and this thing is running laps around them.

Wow, good looking banana. I planted some basjoo earlier this spring. They’re about 9-10 ft now, and they’ve put out some sword suckers as well. From what I’ve read online it sounds like Mekong Giants will sucker even faster than Basjoo. Have you experienced this? I wouldn’t mind the aggressive suckering because I like to dig them up and plant them in other places around the yard.

Thanks man, I almost lost it to Hurricane Isaias but it held on. Two of my 3 mekongs are already suckering. I happened to lose the main stem of one of them during Isaias and one of the suckers is already putting out leaves. There were 2 on this one but one met the weed wacker

Nice pictures .

They may want more sun , but when they like their location they will go crazy . I'm surprised  at mine this year after a mild winter for here .

Thanks ,

No trouble from me but there's a forum you may find interesting!

https://www.palmtalk.org/forum/index.php?/forum/4-tropical-looking-plants-other-than-palms/

I spend a lot of time here. I'm adjusting to a new climate so anything that I can learn about what grows (or might grow) on the humid 8B Gulf Coast, I'm happy. There's a wealth of knowledge here so it's a great place to learn about companion plants for palms or just about anything. People are always posting pictures, so the plant porn is inspirational.

Musa Basjoo Clump. Approximately 15 feet tall at this point (the patio canopy is 13feet at its tallest points). Planted on March 9th this year. The second photo taken August 7th.

@DAVEinMB Ill get an updated picture at the end of this week when the weather is better, we've had Huricane Laura blowing over and its been quite overcast and rainy.

I chopped about a dozen leaves off the trunks a few days ago to open the inside up, and let more light in to the plants below it.

As promised. Here they are September 1st.

Sorry for the crappy lighting, it was about 6pm and the sun was kind of harsh.
