How did i miss this plant heaven ?

very beautiful garden with lots of variety in your collection,

i like it since i have similar taste.i must say that your garden looks like a mini botanical garden with lots of colourful plants

beautifing it.and the red floor carpet(red wood mulch ?) is

distracting me ! since it gives a very neat appearence to the

entire landscaping.

great job ! keep it up.

I don't know why but I am mildly amused at your getting the willys from banana spiders. You strike me as the type of gal who'd want to keep one as a pet  :P

I thought snakes & spiders go hand in hand

No, I draw the line at spiders. I don't run screaming away from them, but, I have been bitten before by a Wolf Spider, and while they aren't venomous, it hurt like the living HELL because they have really large fangs. They are "hunting" spiders that don't do webs, they live on the ground in holes and nooks and crannies and pop out to nab unsuspecting bugs.

And, both my daughter and I have been bitten by Brown Recluse and had to go through the necrotic tissue issue, course of antibiotics, and it left a scar. It was hiding in my Avenged Sevenfold T-shirt, which I took off and threw on the floor, then picked up the next morning to put on to go get the mail. My daughter's was in her shoe.

I don't kill spiders because I think that they provide a valuable service by catching flies and other flying nasties, but I don't actively seek them out as pals either.

I just don't like stuff crawling on me, especially BIG stuff.

I scream like a little girl when spiders land on me. I've been known to do it when lizards have fallen on my head & snakes have slithered across my feet too. I'm not proud.  :D

The thought of a wolf spider biting me sends a cold shiver down my spine.    That's the shizzit right there that a good horror story is made of! I totally get the spider fear, I was just yanking your chain. I commend you for carrying on daily life while in working & living in 'their' hood.

Corkycory, I'd put some slamming tunes on the outdoor poolside speakers for ya (Circle Jerks "Wild in the Streets", Devil Driver, Spine Shank, whateva you wanta hear) and let you rip to your heart's content! The back 2+ acres as well as the sides (which equal about another 2 acres) are forested, and we even have our own creek! I only have about an acre total under cultivation up around the house, and that includes the greenhouse.  We have always said we were going to cut some trails back there, but in summer, the forest is overrun with Orb Weaver spiders called Banana SPiders. These get HUGE (I have seen some bigger than my hand) and its extremely eerie to go out there. SOme of the larger spiders spin way up in the trees and can actually snag small birds. The ones at eye level are bad enough though! I hate walking thru webs, it creeps me out, then the spider gets on you and its a real Baby Jane moment. Totally creepy.

Our property actually abuts a state wildlife preserve, the San Felasco Preserve, which is all trails for hiking, running and biking. We live on a scenic road where the speed limit is 40mph and there is every kind of animal imaginable out here

What?!! Miss metalhead gardener scared of webs?? I pictured you rocking out to slayer wrapped in webs drinking cups of blood(red wine) strolling through the garden :D  Honestly though, I love the pictures of your garden. Very inspiring!

Very nice garden. Lots of colors and varieties. One thing my garden lacks is color, my wife is always harping about it, that everything is green. I guess that's so since I like palms, and also big, green alocasias, which I see you have many varieties of. I still want to get an Alocasia robusta, the giant of the alocasias. I see some anthuriums you have that I have, however I don't know the name of; they are some my wife once had in a pot and I planted them in the ground some years ago under tree canopy. They do very well over the winter.

Happy gardening.

I am sure you all recall that famous and hilarious scene in "Animal House" where a young Tom Hulce as Pinto is groping the very-drunk mayor's daughter and her bra unsnaps as she passes out and he comes away staring at 2 huge wads of tissue paper in his hands, and the devilish Pinto   pops out on one shoulder saying, (well, you recall what he said) and the angelic Pinto   pops out on the other shoulder trying to be a do gooder? Its unclear in the film but we are led to believe that devilish Pinto   ultimately wins.

I have my own angel and devil system that I personally ascribe to. When I am trying to be good, I ask myself, WWHMD? This stands for "What Would Haley Mills Do?" Specifically Haley in "The Trouble with Angels" while she is typically saying to her friend, "But Rache, I have this devilishly SCATHING idea" and bad being "WWJD" which stands for:

WWJasonD.jpg

Jason actually usually wins, but I still hafta think about it. I really like you guys and don't wanna louse this up, LOL

Phew,    *wipes brow* for a minute there, I almost thought you were going to write WTFWJD?  BUT if by chance you want to buy the the T-shirt (....they run small) I don't suggest wearing it to Walmart. Trust me!
