Hello all!! Thinking of adding another canary island date palm to my yard. 

Would like to gather opinions on the minimum amount of space needed between the two while allowing the fronds to still look nice. 

Thoughts would be appreciated.

They get huge where I am, at least 10 ft apart if not more, my recommendation. That said, they can grow right next to each other and thrive.

For CIDP here on Iberian Peninsula the"typical" minimal amount of space is the length of two car park places.

If you have room for another "huge" palm,why not consider a Jubaea,Sabal,Bismarckia,Borassus or Copernicia? A rarer palm will always be the conversation piece in your collection.

I agree with Scott, you have lots of choices in Mesa, dont choose based on what is in a nursery right now.  Beccariophoenix alfredii, bismarckia, and some others might ofrfer some POP to your yard that a second CIDP wont.

Thanks guys for the response. The reason I was thinking about a canary island is that I really do like those palms when trimmed nicely. I had thought about a bismarckia previously and its still a possibility.  I just googled a copernicia and those look really nice, how hard are those to maintain here in arizona, and what variety is the best for our climate. 

I would need something that can take full western sun without getting toasted. 

I also know I want to plant a mule palm when I do the yard. 

For Copernicias,I am growing alba,baileyana,berteroana,cowellii,fallaensis,gigas,glabrecens,macroglossa,rigida and yarey. Needless to say,they are all full sun palms in Arizona,and I have never had to worry about protecting them from freeze or burn,once planted.Finding a larger specimen to buy and plant out will be the challange though.I grew most of mine from seed or small seedlings and have just put in the time to get them to the landscape size they are today.
