Hi all,

Thought I would share my first batch of variegated Caryota mitis.

Have read mixed reviews, hopefully these will contain the correct mix of chlorophyll.

Anyone had any experience with these?
Any idea of how many will survive.

Just opened a box this morning which has been closed for few months. Seems like 85% germinated.

I got 100 from RPS last year, and almost all germinated, but about half were all white, no point in potting them. Potted up the remainder and waiting.

Some are plain green, some are almost all white and a few are dramatically colored.

These are one of the best auction palms! Sold a gallon plant for about $150 U.S. one time. People went wild for it!

Thanks good to know.
Yes, I seem to have a similar mix. Pure white, pure green and some are mixed. Read online some of the pure green throw variegated after a few leaves. Was hoping maybe some of the whites would through variegated but i might just be hopeful.

How tall was the 4 gallon plant? That is a very good price to get. Maybe I can retire sooner than I thought haha.

That was a one-gallon plant, about 1/3 to 1/2 M tall. Nice, but not huge.

If you can get some to grow, they really are killer. I ran across about a 30 M long row of them in Coastal San Diego, and they were in full sun, under the coastal fog, and it looked like some crazed autistic person went and painted individual variegated patterns on each of about 30 or so plants. They sparkled in the breeze. My brain kinda gets covid thinking about it.

Is this true? A palm friend in Thailand sent me seeds from his variegated tree. I have 45 seedlings and they're all green. Was hoping for a least one!

I should add, that they're all 2-leafers right now.

Mine are starting to show second leaf now. One has shown slight variegation from one that was pure green. (First photo)

Added some more of the variegated ones.

Have an update for you. Some that were pure green after the 4 leaf had some variegation. So do not give up hope on all greens. They also seem to be a lot stronger and bigger if start off green :)

There’s a particularly large specimen of one of these at Lukas in Oviedo. I had no idea this species had variegated specimens until I saw it. Never been a huge fan of fish tails, but this made me second guess myself!

@chad2468emr thanks for sharing not easier to find adult ones online.

Couple more of the ones I grew from seed. Lighter one has a bit of sunburn.

As you can see less variegated one grows a lot quicker.
