The Palmetum at Lakeside Park in Oakland, California is a unique collection of temperate palms.  It's warm, (not hot) nearly frost free environment is very well suited to Lord Howe Island palms as well as Ceroxylons and Parajubeas.

The Parajubea's tower over the collection from the approach.

Trithrinax campestris.  Super stiff leaves look and feel like plastic.  Really beautiful palm.

I couldn't find the name for this unusual palm.  I'm guessing it's Juania australis.  Anyone know what these are?  Planted in a grove of 4-6 trees....

The palms in the group that you wanted identified are indeed Juania australis.  Very fussy about climate, but Oakland and San Francisco seem to suit it fine.

Hi Glenn, thanks for posting this thread.   Please post more if you have them!  In post # 4, the two small palms behind the person are Lepidorrhachis mooreana.  Our one plant of Hedyscepe is further to the right from the viewer's perspective.

Hi Darold, thanks for the correction.  Yes, I'd like to post more, but as you can see I'm ID challenged!  :D

I'll try to visit on a work party Saturday so Bob or yourself can assist me with the ID's and I can take many more pictures.

That is a great garden,  by the way.

I'd forgotten how toasty it can be in the East Bay in the Summer Time . . . .

It's really pretty cool, by most standards.  The average high temperature for Oakland, CA in July is only 73 F.

In the Winter, freezes are rare.

The Palmetum's geographical coordinates are known to many Nor Cal Palm enthusiasts as its location is believed by many to be the most versatile climate for growing palm trees in all of Northern California.

I'll be posting a more thorough collection of pics (with correct ID's) in Travel Log in the near future.
