Majesty Palm, plant seems loose

Recommended Posts

Hi,   My Majesty Palm seems loose in the soil, or not soil as case is.  I really thought it was how the liner was sitting in a bigger pot but noticed it is the plant itself that is wobbly.    What they used for soil I see is would chips and sawdust it seems.  I can put my finger  as far as possible like butter.   Plus you will see in the pic that it has a root that is exposed for an inch or two.  I was going to put soil on top and pack it down some to cover the root and see if makes it sturdier but then saw this wood concoction they used.    So now am not sure what to do, top it up repot it, get rid of wood stuff etc... lol.   Besides this the Palm seems fine, green fronds no brown or yellow.

Now I am passing the buck to my friends at the  ' International Palm Society'  lol,  be glad to hear any advice    TYVM

Eric, there is a ton on 'soils'  or potting mediums here, even on this first page. I think that it depends on how suitable your climate is as to how fussy you need to be with the potting mix. I can see your problem as you said the mix needs more structure, that is a crummy mix even by my low standards.  See here....

I didn't know what to actually look for. Should I switch it to soil,  top it up with soil, leave this or get the same kind of mix.   But thanks to your answer Steve I am going with a mix.

Its an indoor plant that I bought at a grocery store.  Are there premix bags I could buy somewhere

Even MG palm mix needs something coarse like perlite or pumice to keep it from going mucky. If palm is still wobbly, stake it..
