Where Shoots Will Open?

May be dumb question of the day but wth lol.  Do we have any control of what direction the shoots  (not sure if right word)  will open? Do they open towards the sun or away from the sun or is it luck of the draw type thing?

New spears will appear in the center of the palm as this is how palms grow.  It looks like you have 3 or 4 majesty palms (Ravenea rivularis) planted together.  They are solitary palms so you won't see any additional stems coming up. It's a common practice for growers to lump multiple plants together in order to make a quicker sale with a fuller, more attractive product.  You may see the palms leaning towards the light at some point so you could rotate the container to keep them more upright.  These are actually poor choices for indoor palms even though they are marketed that way.  Welcome to Palmtalk!  How 'bout them Greyhounds!

" Spears " , TYVM.  I knew shoots was wrong but just couldnt get it lol.  Its the spears I am wondering about. Its just that one side is thinner then the other and I am hoping they will open into that area. I am wondering if the plant will find that itself or if I could help it with placement to the sun. I hope I am getting things across ok

Wow a Texan that knows the Greyhounds! ; )   Impressive or you are from Ontario lol.   They are still imitating the Leafs. Doing good unless it counts lol

LOL!  Actually I used to be a big fan.  When I was a kid in Tennessee I used to listen to games on AM radio from WJR in Detroit, WBBM in Chicago and KMOX in St. Louis.  I always liked the name of your city and team but never been there before!  Haven't kept up with the game since the 90's - it's not the same anymore.  I've been in Texas and growing palms outdoors since 2000.

When a spear emerges, its rachis (petiole) will dictate where the leaf will point. The next immediate spear will be opposite of the prior.

So usually: west, then east. North, then south.

ETA: in other words the new leaves will be opposite of each other.

Regards and welcome to the forum!
