Licuala grandis seedlings issue

Featured Replies

So I have an adult one that has blessed me with lots of seeds, but the seedlings seem very difficult, constantly yellow and just not robust growers.  I have them in decently draining soil in pots and use slow release osmocote fertilizer, pretty much what I do with all my seedlings but these guys are not happy. Thoughts?

How do new leaves compare to old leaves? Are some greener than others?

I have found that they do terrible in community pots. When I grow them in trays/cells, they seem to do a lot better, no idea what it is...

I had no problems with L grandis seedlings, potted in a fast draining soil mix (1/3 Seramis + 2/3 pine bark 8mm) and added only rarely a very diluted fertilizer (liquid NPK 7+3+6), here in Ø8mm x H9mm clay pots:

Well those look perfect, I'm thinking more drainage to my potting mix.

Sorry, I have to correct myself once more: The L grandis soil mix was 3/5 pine bark 8mm + 1/3 Seramis® + 1/3 Kokohum®.

Won't help the seedlings but....

Can you post a picture of the mother plant. I love these.

Sure, needs a bit of a trim and it's also getting to tall for a good photo other then from underneath.
