Pindo, Mule, or other?

Found these for sale on craigslist. Listing says pindo but they look like they could be hybrids. Thoughts?

Do you know if they have spines on the petioles?, they don't look like pure Butia.

Probably just stretched out Butia grown for years in shade and just recently put out in the sun.  Hybrids with Syagrus (standard mules) have deep green leaves and these grey-green leaves say pure Butia.

I was thinking the same thing.

I haven't seen them in person unfortunately, they're about 2 hours from me but the price is worth the drive regardless of what they are.  Haven't heard back from the seller yet tho..

I don't have any butia in the collection so if they are pure I can cross that one off the list :D

50 each or 240 for the lot

Butia are quite common but they are still one of my favorites!  Drought/humidity/high heat/cold tolerant and produce delicious fruits!  Plus they look good before they trunk so the slow growth (not always) isn't such an issue.  :D  One of my earliest memories of palms as a kid on family trips to Georgia, South Carolina and Florida.

Thats a very good price given there size and if you where to have the space for them.

I think the size is very misleading since they look shade/greenhouse grown.  In the sun these will grow new fronds much smaller/stockier i would guess.  But $50 is a good price for sure if they are healthy.    I don't know enough to tell if they are a hybrid.

My concern is that they might be root bound in those pots.  I have found that all the ones I bought near that size were eventually outpaced by 2-3 gallon palms that were cheaper, since the smaller palms became established so much faster.

Root bound pindos are nothing to be afraid of. They are one of the easiest to transplant palms period. I agree they look like they were grown in full shade.

They will keep one for themselves then bump the price and sell the rest. Likely as you said, $100.
