Has anyone noticed a size difference between male and female trachycarpus, which got bigger thicker trunk, which got biggest/longest leaves etc any thoughts?

In my experience leaf size has nothing to do with the sex of the palm. Trachys are very variable in leaf size at least they are in the UK. I bought some seeds some 20 years ago and the leaves from this batch of seeds are at least 30% bigger than any of the others I grow from any other source.  Regardless of sex.  As for trunk size the quicker you get them out of a pot and into the ground the thicker the trunk will be.  All other things being equal:greenthumb:

@palm789 The sex of a dioecious  palm is only evident when it flowers, and with some palms that is not always obvious. On some palms the M or F flower spikes are quite distinct  others not.

Cheers Steve

It is not dead, it is just senescence.

I have had a couple of my Trachys flower as males for the first couple years they bloomed, then switch to females later.  I think they have since stayed female (?), so I don't know how permanent of a trait sex is for them anyhow.

It does. I’ve even seen both male and female flowers on the same tree.

Trachy can change sex.  I have a big Male that started making one female flower every few years.
