Ligght for a Christmas Palm

Recommended Posts

Hello, I got a Christmas Palm as a gift. I live in a apartment that doesn't get direct sun.  I was told that a good full spectrum LED light will be good for the tree, however I was wondering does the tree have to be completely engulfed with the light ,or most of it. This is the light i am getting:), Is this light perfect for the tree?

Thank you

It would probably be helpful to know the size of the palm? Led lights are fine, maybe someone can chime in on the size light.

the size fully deployed is 11.7" and the palm is a three gallon. and about 3.5 feet wide

Any pics of the tree? How tall is it and how thick are the trunks? Total width of the palms leaves is still too hard to determine maturity by without pics.

Sometimes LEDs can help supplementally with light, but they're mostly unhelpful because at about 12+ inches away from the plant it comparable to natural low light.

You'll probably get some new fronds that "reach" or distort length wise to get closer light.

You will be fine I have many many Xmas indoors using led lights. Good draining soil. Centre the light right over top don’t let any leaves touch it as those lights get warm. Also if you can heat us huge. I know it’s tough but keeping those roots warm is a huge deal. I keep my palm room night times 77f. Daytime 90f.

Might be something to consider.....

I have a triple that I've kept indoors for a couple of years that I grow in 100% perlite. Sits in front of a large east facing window and has done just fine. I've had others that came in their pot with soil and never thrived indoors and slowly declined until they died so bought bare root to try in the perlite only and has worked.  I've read about this species liking heat, and especially the root ball(probably why you see so many in pots in warmer climates)  Ordered one of these round heat mats for  newly acquired double that I want to keep indoors. This one not in 100 perlite, but in very well draining media(no soil) so going to experiment on this one with heat mat.

One other piece of advice to watch out for when indoors is Spider Mites. They seem to really love this species of palm.
