This was a surprise this weekend. I obtained this butia purpurascens ages ago from a former eBay vendor (Coconut Climber). This is the first time it has flowered.IMG_9437.thumb.jpeg.e79087db95018de1f1e2fc940405b78f.jpegIMG_9438.thumb.jpeg.c0dd8fc16e572192b7e6ac80109cfaab.jpeg

I planted out my rootbound B. purpurascens (also orig. from Coconut Climber) in my yard earlier this spring. In the process I lost most of the roots that were tightly wrapped and stuck to the bottom of the pot. The plant went into shock and doesn't look good now, but I'm not ready to yank it out and toss it until I see if it recovers. Definitely a slow-growing palm, at least here in NorCal, but one that is very attractive and with petiole margins free of spines or teeth.
