Coccothrinax boschiana revisited February,2020

In October 2006,the IPS sponsored a trip to the Dominican Republic to view native palms in situ.Fast forward 14 years for another peek at this specific, spectacular, very remote area, occupied by Coccothrinax boschiana.This first tree pictured is the very same one that everyone posed by back then,and it's growth has been considerable over the last 14 years.

Seeds of this species are TINY! 22 seeds per 100 mm.

First Coccothrinax boschiana seed sprout.  

Tiny seeds make for tiny sprouts! Will be a 1mm blade of grass for the first year. Patience definitely required with this species.

Spectacular drone video of the entire wild population as created by forum member GMann.There were probably less than 2000 trees total in this single, known, habitat location for this species.

Seeds were collected and planted 4 months ago at this point.Community pot has pretty much germinated,seedlings have grown,and it's time to pot them up individually into 1 gallon containers.This species is a remote germinator and produces a rather large root system before growing much above ground.
