Repotted Phoenix dactylifera Seedling

Featured Replies

This Phoenix dactylifera seedling needed to be repotted about a year ago from the little cup I first put it in. Finally got around to it and just wanted to show you it. Grown from seed out of a store bought date and it stretched, I need to give it more sun. My potting mix didn't drain at all so I had to mix topsoil with sand.

It's not hard, just make sure you get all of the fruit off or the seeds will get moldy fast.

How long does germination take?

Usually 2-4 weeks.

I got 'Mazafati' dates from a store. They were harvested already a year ago before I bought them. I kept the seeds for another 6 months until I sowed them. They started to germinate after 1,5 weeks! A couple of days later around 47 of all 50 seeds were germinated. Not even a week after the first germination most of them had 5-10cm roots!
