Isopropyl alcohol for insect control?

I have a nice 3+ foot single Chamaedorea elegans   After receiving it and being happy and growing well indoors for 4/5 months and sitting by itself noticed a quick and severe infestation of Mealy bug. To many to remove one by one with a q tip in alcohol so I just added some to a small spray bottle I had and sprayed the fronds and stems really good. Let it sit on there for a few hours and rinsed off.

Mealy bugs gone...and no damaged to any parts of the palm so was curious if anyone else has simply sprayed rubbing alcohol on  a indoor palm to get rid of any pest?  I assume the alcohol dries up the pest thus killing it and possibly any eggs laid as well.

I've been thinking about doing the same for any spider mite infestations as currently I've been alternating  from Avid to Forbid and always concerned with their long term use.

I had success doing this with a schefflera, but caused significant damage to a nidus fern. It probably varies from plant to plant.

Diluting it with Ines tidal soap and water may be safer
