Is the black fuzziness on Wodyetia bifurcata normal?

Just picked up a 3 gallon Foxtail palm.

Cant help but notice an overwhelming amount of black dots on it. If I rub my fingers against them, some stick to my fingertips. It's almost like a fuzz.

You’re good. I’ve got 5 of them, all bought at different times and from different places, and they all have that, and have since I got them.

Nice looking palm! Are you going to put it in the ground?

I'm in a bit of a quagmire regarding this.

I only have one spot left for a palm in the garden sliver. It's either this one or the tall coco (which has not yet germinated) in the outhaus bathroom.

The spot is in the eastern-most side of the garden (almost beneath the carport). It is the coolest spot in the garden.

I will wait till spring to make my decision.

I love the foxtail palm! I am in zone 10b and have two. It's my understanding that it is not as cold tolerant as a Queen or King palm and will perish at 30 degrees. Is that true? I am skeptical of that. I am not worried about temps in zone 10b but still curious if that is accurate. But I am worried about it thriving in my clay soil like the Queens. I heard Foxtails do not like clay either but I can't get any definitive answers. So far the center spears are on the rise but I dont believe the roots have penetrated the real native clay soil yet

This is the type of palm that will grow tall at a rate quicker than others in the garden most likely. These can be planted pretty close to others if you want. There will/could be a few years of clutter while the fronds are together but I think the Wodyetia will shoot past the other canopy.

This is what I’ve experienced anyway. Depends what look you are going for I guess.
