Salt water tolerance of some Cycas

It was interesting to see these Cycas species growing at the edge of this channel between two small islands in the Indian Ocean. We are all familiar with Cocos nucifera growing at the ocean's edge. The vertical rocks were placed as a barrier with a tiny sand beach below. This was on a small island adjacent to North Pagai Island in the Mentawai islands of Indonesia. Bottom line it appears that at least some Cycas have no problems growing right at the water's edge where their roots would inevitably be exposed to a saline water table below sea level.

I have many Cycas rumphii growing beachfront. They do sometimes show some brown tips due to the salt spray. Cycas angulata also seems very tolerant.

El Oasis - beach garden, distinct wet/dry season ,year round 20-38c

Las Heliconias - jungle garden ,800m elevation,150+ inches rainfall, year round 15-28c

I wasn't certain which species it was as this was on the grounds of a small surf camp/resort where I saw many known non-native species to Indonesia. There were some Hyophorbes, Bismarkia's and Dypsis planted. At least one of the Cycas was coning, but I didn't take any photos of the cone to assist with the id

Nice, any photos of your Angulata? I’ve become a big fan of the Australian Cycas.
