Hello there,

usually not much worth of a headline but since it is the first time that I got a volunteer in my garden I thought I will let palm talk know. ;)

Planted out as a young seedling in 2012, here in June 2014.

Same one in May 2014.

Growing steadily and performing very well during our typhoons - here in March 2017.

Seeding for the first time, January 2019.

Ripe seeds fall off during the next weeks - I decided to let nature take its course.

Seeding goes on and while taking a closer look - last Friday, July 12th - ...

...if this is not...

Yes, no doubt - my first volunteer! :D

I will let it grow there because I think groups of healthy Christmas palms can look really nice - so, why not giving them a chance right here.

Thank you for time,

best regards from Miyako island/Okinawa

Nice tree. Hope the volunteer makes it.

This was one of my favorite palms when I first got hooked on palms. I was bummed to find out they were a no go for me where I live.

Thank you all!

I mislabeled the second photo - it was taken in May 2016 not May 2014.

I am sorry!

I used to get so excited when my palms would seed so I could grow more, now I dread those seeds palms popping up everywhere.

I love volunteers, many of my plants have begun life as weeds somewhere else. If you want more volunteers just throw some mulch on top of the fallen seeds, add water in the beginning of the hot weather season and POOF!  Be careful what you wish for though......

Couple more years and your Adonidia might make seed like this.
