Green bottle infestation? Tips?

Featured Replies

Hi all. I noticed this morning large specs on many of the fronds of all the coconuts and low and behold green bottle flies just hanging out on the fronds. Motionless.

We dont have any trash in the yard.

These last few hot days I have watered the palms more often.

Pics dont do 'em justice, but these flies are metallic green. Not the common black/brown house fly.

Any pointers are appreciated.

Thanks

Probably coming from one of your neighbors yards.  Home Depot or any of the other box stores should carry the liquid fly traps  something similar to the photo. I don’t think they’re doing any harm to your palms though but I could be wrong.

They shouldn't harm your palms but they're annoying. I get them real bad here and I think it's because of my neighbors leaving their trash cans open.  Not cleaning up after dogs is a big cause also. I do set up fly traps to cut down on population but best to put them somewhere you never go often.

Kevin and Chris, thank you. Sound logical.  I mentioned the same possibility to my wife, he hence when I take photos of the palms, I try to omit the neighbor's "yard".....

I'll look for the fly trap bags. Thanks again!

Common as muck in Australia. Won't hurt your palms of course.
