Spring Plantings 2019

Welp it’s that time of the year. Spring has sprung and it’s time to plant. I will show you guys what I have planted.

Sabal Minor ‘McCurtain’

 

Planted underneath a Crepe Myrtle.

Sabal ‘Louisiana’ #1

Which is on a south facing wall.

Sabal ‘Louisiana’ #2

 

Which is planted next to a dark rock that absorbs a lot of heat.

Sabal ‘Brazoriensis’ 

 

Ive heard a lot of good things about this palm.

Sabal Palmetto ‘Mocksville’ 

 

Which is planted in a Southeastern facing corner. It will be protected probably every winter, but I love S. palmetto so much that it’s worth it.

Sabal Uresana ‘Blue Highlands’

 

Ive heard interesting hardiness reports with this plant and I’m intrigued. I’m just experimenting and I don’t think this is a long term palm here, but who knows? Will definitely be protected. I was going to keep it in a pot for a while, but the roots on this thing are crazy!

I have seen some planted in this area and I want to join the league! Haha!

"Sabal Uresana" is on my list to put in the ground. Need to order some from TCHP shortly. 

Just remember that rock will absorb less and less and that guy grows. Nothing like a little palm shade

Haha thank you! I know that rock won’t absorb as much heat when the palm grows. But it’s helpful for its “strap leaf phase”. I just need that thing established lol!

All looks good.  All should be cold hardy for your area except the Palmetto as you noted.

Haha, I also have one under a Crepe Myrtle! I suspect the nice smooth bark will contrast nicely with the dark green. What Myrtle did you plant?

That S. Louisiana is really blue in the sunlight. Plant Delights now has Sabal minor Wakulla Dwarf back in stock.
