First thing in the morning I’m heading with my fam to bevaro beach Punta Cana. From most pics I see a ton of cocos nucifera but iam confident that I will be successful in finding an assortment of palms and hopefully bring some seed home for a palmy souvenir. If I have palm Id questions I will post up for your inputs and help like I did last year in jamiaca.

Hopefully I will post some nice pics

Thanks everyone

Both Sabal causarium and S. domingensis are native to the Dominican Republic, so those seem like reasonable first guesses, though I have no idea if they can tolerate flooded conditions. You can distinguish those two based on the size of the fruit or seed.  Sabal domingensis has larger seeds.  If you want S. causarium and you have few extra minutes at the Punta Cana airport when you leave, the road heading south from the airport has more than a mile of them planted along the center median (at least I think they are S. causarium).  When we were there my wife was not amused that I ran off to grab some seeds while she went to the check in counter!

Those fruits look pretty green still - the Sabals look ripe and maybe one of the Roystoneas.  You'll probably be OK with the Syagrus even with green fruits, but the others I'm not so sure will germinate for you.  Good luck with them.  But you may surprise me - let us know if you succeed!

There’s slim pickings right now. A lot of palms are flowering but not ready so I’m taking some chances oh well it’s fun and yes my wife yells at me when I jump in the bush to get seeds it’s ok. I don’t mind.

I gathered a bunch of seeds from these dypsis lutescens as you can see in the grass the seeds are very viable with baby plants everywhere
