Sabal Louisiana Hardiness?

Where did your brazoria originate from?  also how big?  Sorry to hear you had a bad run

@Allen I got them from Teddy and nd they were in 3 or 5 gallon pots. The one that I protected has 10 x 2-3’ wide fronds on it so it’s a decent sized plant. The other is similar sized but a little smaller maybe 6 palmate fronds.

I recently have bought some Sabal Louisianas because I thought they were basically the same as Sabal Minors in terms of hardiness. But I’ve been finding conflicting reports on their hardiness. Some say they are equal to Sabal Minor, and some say they aren’t as hardy. I’m afraid that they’ll croak in my Zone 7b. Has anyone had experience with S. Louisiana? Would they be possible in a Maryland 7b/8a? Or are they more of a solid zone 8?

Should be ok in an upper U.S. subtropical zone 7b.  Or even a stronger upper U.S. subtropical 7a.  An ideal spot would be against a building on the south side or near a body of water.  They can take some cold snaps of the shorter variety.  I'm not sure how long they'll endure temps under 32.0 F, but over a week is a good estimate.  You could add protection for those long duration under 32.0 F events.

Allen, my Louisiana has been very Hardy for me we were below freezing for 9 days And had a couple lows in the negatives and mine had very minimum damage I did protect it with a bucket i'm sure that did not do much. I know most palms species take a couple weeks for the damage to show up but the past week we have been consistently in the  high-50s  and most of the damage has shown up, its very minimum

There's one in Philadelphia that has made it through some impressive stretches under 32.0 F.  It has been there since 1985.

That I don't know exactly.  I read something online about it.  It's somewhere downtown I believe.  It's up by a building there.

There are specimens reported to be in Glenside (outside of Philadelphia since 1985).  I just read that online.

So about equal for the former two, but with Louisiana just being more resistant than Birmingham to spear pull if foliar damage does happen? Thanks!

I'm just a neurodivergent Middle Tennessean guy that's obsessively interested in native plants (especially evergreen trees/shrubs) from spruces to palms.

I prefer it when the article arrives with the posting. If you think of it, perhaps you could do that? Thanks.

If the fronds are taking major damage the spear will too when it gets above ground
