Weird French Riviera Cocos... are these even real plants?

Recommended Posts

I follow many palm related hashtags on instagram, which occasionally can provide very strange and interesting results. Im used to seeing Dracena and Yucca getting posted as palms, as well as the people who use the hastags with no plants in sight (blasphemy).

This model tagged her location as Côte d’Azur, and from her other photos (very scientific research and whatnot) she seems to tag the location where the photo was taken and not where it was uploaded (which has confused me before).

At first I thought that these were fake plants, but they have some strangely dynamic leaflets for a manufactured palm.

I searched the forum but came up empty, maybe one of our French members can help me? Are these even real? I swear if there is a Butia/Cocos hybrid just hanging out on the French Riviera i will lose my mind haha

Real palms. But not coco nucifera. The nuts aren't real.

I think they're plastic coconuts.

The ones hanging on the trees look plastic as well.

Took me a while but I see the trees now. My money is that they are fake. There is no new growth or spikes. The trunks look goofy where the leaves start and there isn’t one damaged leaf.

I doubt real coconuts can survive there long term. Everything about the place looks fake.
