Those ladies are beautiful. Even more impressive to me is the size of that beccariophoenix. That is immense. How old is it? Does it still have the windows? I can't tell.

C Macroglossa is one of my favorites.....nice plants and photo

If global warming means I can grow Cocos Nucifera, then bring it on....

This is my first attempt at posting picytures. If it is not done correctly, please be patient. This is a picture of my biggest Macroglossa. It is 5 years in the ground and was planted small. Maybe about 12 inches at first planting. I have since planted 3 more this spring but they are only about 6" tall to start out.  The leaves grow in a swirling circular-type pattern that can't be seen from this photo. The plant is sort like a giant funnel that collects water when it rains.

What's the story on Beccariophoenix? I had heard that is was difficult to grow, and that it seemed to suffer from nutritional problems.  Yet, I see pictures of beautiful specimans growing in Australia, Florida and Hawaii.  Is it difficult to grow?

One of my favorite palms in our garden. It is a very slow grower in our area but has been able to recover from any freeze we've had since the 60's. (I'm not sure if was in the ground in 1961 when it got to 18 F). I'm sure it would have liked more light over the years also. I recently removed an adjacent Arenga for that reason and it seems to be responding with new leaves.

Brad,

It appears that your C. macroglossa is in deep shade and just will not grow much. But I have to say, I love the look of your large trees and the philo vines.

Beccariophoenix has been a great palm for me. It is slow as molasses but looks great all year. Didn't miss a beat this winter. Only throws out 1 or 2 fronds a year. That's fine with me since I have it in a pretty small space. It will need to be moved in about......oh.......25 years or so. I have the non windows version which is supposed to be hardier that the windows variety. No nutritional issues with mine but I think our soil is pretty good.
