Need a CYCAD identification

Al in Kona

Recommended Posts

Can anyone help to identify this Cycas?  I got it many years ago as a seedling and was told the seed came from Thailand.

Last year the leaves looked bad (yellow spotting and some drying on leaflet edges mostly - see pic below) so I ended up removing all the leaves a few months ago.  I then watered it well, fertilized it with a small amount of Nutricote 360.  Shortly after a new flush of leaves appeared but very shortly afterwards this yellowing of the leaflet edges again appeared.  See the below photos.  Any idea what the problem is?  Any ideas as to identification, comments or advise on the leaflet yellowing problem greatly appreciated.  These photos were just taken yesterday . . .

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!
