This palm is care free and even shows a variety of colors as it clumps.

So the two photos with my fingers are in the same light but quite different.

I have heard some say theirs turned all green but so far this one gets more colorful.

Beautiful!  Have you experienced any burn on the variegated parts of the palm?

Mine did well and had great color but produced very few seedlings that were variegated.

When I first moved it from mostly shade to  sun I did notice the old leaves showed some burn but all the new leaves seem to enjoy the light.

The C. zebrina and C. ophiopellis are great too, but of course being solitary they die too soon.

I am happy knowing that my C. mitis I am thinking of as self pruning.

 I will remove the individual trunks that die after seeding and still have the rest to enjoy!

Sorry to hear this.

Hopefully I will get at least a few eventually as I only see the non variegated one in Puerto Rico and not too many of those.

People go bananas for them; I had a 1-gallon plant go for $130 at a PSSC auction.

Wow! I don’t recall what I paid for my little seedling, but I am sure it was much much less than that!

Still glad the PSSC plant went to someone who really wanted it and hope they are as happy with it as I am with mine.

Nice looking variegation on yours Cindy.  They make a nice looking palm.  I have 3 planted around the garden here.  I have grown and sold a lot of them over the years from Jeff Marcus stock.  He claims to get about 10% of the variegated palm seed to actually come up variegated.  I have seen some seedlings loose the variegation as they grow, and when some seem to loose it, the suckers will be variegated.   Here are a few from the garden.

Thank you, for inspiring me, Cindy!  Went out and picked up a variegated mitas from DoomsDave after seeing your post.  Will be putting mine in a more protected location since I don’t have the high humidity and rain you do.

Today from my second floor kitchen window in the mist near dusk. See the big Roystonea borinquena down a hill in the distance.

Still loving this variegated C. mitis.

I lost a nice variegated R. mitis earlier this year. The spear never opened and the plant collapsed. Total mystery why that happened? It spent most of the year in the sunroom and was putting out shoots at the base.

At least my R. excelsa is doing well!

Oops! I meant to write that I'd lost a variegated Caryota mitis! Not trying to add a new species to that genus!🙄

I picked up 5 seeds from under a variegated C. mitis in October of 2021. All 5 sprouted and of those 5 seeds 3 showed variegation when the first leaf opened. One was almost white and died a couple of weeks after opening. The other 2 are still trudging along, this one showing the best pattern.

I bought a 3 gallon variegated Mitis from Lukas on a whim, because my germinated RPS "variegated" ones all came out completely green.  🤮  The Lukas one stayed variegated until about a 6 foot tall frond came out completely green.  I was really disappointed, as I read (mostly in this thread) that they can revert to green after a while.  It got torched this winter at about 26.5F minimum, and the main trunk died off.  But it's sprouting back from the ground with a hint of variegation:

Hopefully the pups revert back on that guy @Merlyn! I’ll be bummed if mine loose their variegation but a mitis is a nice palm anyway at least.
