Next time mix some Viagra in with the fertilizer. I'd say PRE-pubescent.

Congrats on your palm growing skill, Dave. You may reconsider your good fortune after Butch drops 1,000s of little seeds that turn into 1,000 of fast-growing seedlings.

Dunno about skill, but luck for sure with this one. And, it's too close to the house.

Yes, I thought of the Rain of the Thousand Babies. Fortunately, we don't (usually) get the rainfall needed for the babies to become the nuisances they are in Florida or Hawaii.

Haven't run into many here that even get viable seed on their Royals. @Brett in Mission Viejo, does your Mega-Butch make viable seeds?

DD,

No,it does not. At least not yet. Not sure if it ever will. If I had a bit warmer winters, may be a different story.

Congrats DD! How old is that prettiness? What has been the coldest temperature your palm has suffered?

Non-viable seeds? Well, bummer. I figured Dave would plaster the world with them. Sounds like they can't survive SoCal chilly, wet winters. All along I wondered when CA would be self-sufficient where royals were concerned. I learn something every day.

It was planted as a 2 foot (60 CM) tall plant in October of 2004, almost 14 years ago. It suffered four days of 24.5 F (-4.1 C) back in January of 2017. It got burned a bit, but, no real long term harm done. It's now the better part of 30 feet (10 M) tall, and about 20 feet (6.6 M) across the crown.

I'd love to plaster the world with Royal seeds. But, looks like I won't be doing that. At least not with my plant.
