I have a large pot full of freshly germinated Sabal palmetto Lisa seedlings - too many for me to count right now. They are offspring of the 2016 crop of seeds from the mother palm residing in a Ft. Myers palm. Last fall I took the last remnants of those seeds, tossed them in the pot and waited to see what came up. Long term members of PT are probably familiar with this fabulous mutant palm with its spectacular fused and pleated leaves. The mutation showed up in a few wild Sabals and was reported on and named for the discover's wife in 2006. It is rare in cultivation and much desired by palm collectors.

Seedlings that inherit this trait may not show Lisa leaves for up to 3-5 years. Some researchers say chance of seeds coming up true is 20% but I have had up to 65% of seeds from this mother palm being true. But I suspect that may vary from crop to crop (why I don't know) and I make no claims that you will have similar results. Best to try multiple seedlings and be patient. With these seedlings you will get a 6-month jump on the wait.

    California crowd should be snatching these up by the dozens. The texture and stiffness of the lisa leaves are almost Bismarckia like, at least mine is.

    I believe I took that several years ago. I haven't been to that park in two years.
