Very large foxtail palms I found here off 17-92 in sanford right near 417.... looks like they have been planted here for years . 

Are those in the median on 17/92 just north of the 417? I've been watching those for several years, they have grown well though they are in an open and colder location.

There are some nice Foxtails on the south side of an office building on 1st St. in downtown Sanford that are nice. Just a couple blocks east of 17/92.

 

Eric they are right across the street from lumber Liquidators. Yeah , there are a few batches of them close by as well....they look extremely healthy

I have been aware of those since at least 2012.  Not only are they thriving in that location, I have witnessed a number of them bloom and produce seeds over and over again.  It would seem that, in the right sighting, Foxtail palms have more resistance to cold than most people think.

It should be noted that many of these have bloomed and set seed over and over...

I agree. There are some large ones in my south Orlando town that looked unphased with minimal burn this winter. Mine got burned but it was just planted last year and not well established. It is slowly recovering. 

Awesome that they are setting seed. I have seen quite a few around Orlando seeding in the last few years.

There is a big one near me in Altamonte Springs by 436 and Westmonte at a hotel. It has seeded heavily the last couple years. It was burned this year but is growing back.

There is a new neighborhood off exit 104 here in Sanford that the builder planted a foxtail at every house . The neighborhood was built last March and I drive in there the other day and half of them died ...all got burned real bad . That’s gambling here in sanford ....even though we have had very mild winters the past 7 years or so 

I have a foxtail question I thought I'd ask here rather than start a new thread. I planted a foxtail March 2017. Appears to have made it through its first hurricane and freeze. Noticed today a bulge up the trunk. Being new to foxtails, is this normal?

Absolutely normal . Your foxtail did good . Did u protect it at all during the days we where under 32 degrees ?

Thanks. I did not protect it this winter. I lost 3 fronds in Irma that were snapped off. I lost another 2 from the freeze so fortunate to have anything to start with this year!

Most in my area did fairly well or at least showing strong recovery. These 2 are my neighbors that did very well as these were taken a month after the freeze.

Oh yeah that’s right . There was a coconut palm there that died this past winter I think you showed me
