Several of us would be very interested in any observations or experience of Attalea speciosa and Attalea dubia in the U. S.

What number of compartments does each normally have in the seed?  Many Thanks, merrill and others.

Hi Merrill,

In 1999,  I germinated an A. speciosa seed with three distinct compartments.  I'm not sure what is considered normal for this species.

I hope this helps,

Ray

Hi, Ray:

Many Thanks for the info.  Is the Attalea speciosa still alive and happy?  Best Wishes, merrill

Merrill,

I bought a double A. speciosa from "Orlando Dave" last year.  I separated them into their own pots by carefully cutting one from the nut. The other is still firmly attached to the nut but both appear to be doing fine.

Years ago I tried germinating A. dubia by cracking the nut and removing the kernel for about a dozen of them. The majority had one kernel with maybe one or two having a pair and none with three.

Hi, Ron and Alberto:

Thank you both for your information.  Did A. dubia germinate for either or both of you?  Best Wishes, merrill

All three are alive and well Merrill.  One planted out here, one at my sisters condo in St. Petersburg and one at my aunts home in Ft. Lauderdale.

Just for show a picture of one of the few Attalea speciosa cultivated in my country.- It´s in a town 1000 kilometres north of my city and the place had suffered ocasional freezes.-
