Just a quicky: When sprouting seeds, when is the best time to transplant to individual pots?  Should I do it as soon as I notice the tap root emerging from the seed, or should I wait until I see the first leaf emerge from the soil?  Normally I sprout in sphagnum moss, but I have a few Licuala calciphila seeds sprouting in soil.  These are almost impossible to come by, and I don't want to take a chance by doing something wrong!

Thanks for the help.

Glad the seeds arrived and are away.

These are remote germinators and so if they are already in a community pot I would wait for the leaf to emerge.

If they are in a baggy with soil then you can split when you can determine the cotyledon to orientate. Pal Meir has a topic with labelling so perhaps look there if unsure.http://www.palmtalk.org/forum/index.php?/topic/49770-labeled-germination/

They do fine from an early stage and have found them fairly trouble free.

Are the Caryota away too? (remote also)

Cheers

Thanks Steve.  One Caryota has sprouted, and I put in a tube pot.  The other three I placed in a baggy with sphagnum.

I took a look at one of the community pots of the Licuala and it looks like the first plumules are beginning to emerge.  I'll give them a bit of time and then transplant.
