Palm masters please ID this palm for me.  Thanks!  I bought this palm from Home Depot about 3 years ago.  They just labeled it as 'tropical'.  My guess is that it is some sort of dypsis or chamaedorea.

Looks like the Areca catechu that I bought at the Home Depot a couple of years ago. They are very commonly labeled as "tropical foliage" and the Home Depot often gets them in from their Hawaiian supplier, at least here on the west coast.

Hi Jim,

If indeed it is Areca catechu, it is a beast because it was able to withstand the cold spell in the last 3 years in SD.  The palm in the picture is a clumping variety and I don't know if Areca catechu is.  One of the plant is suckering out from the bigger plant.

I've also seen a mislabeled A. triandra at HD before.  The label said it was A. catechu but the plant was clumping.

No one cares about your current yard temperature 🙃

From the looks of the pictures, you really can't tell if it's clumping(which I doubt) or three plants planted as a group. If it is suckering, most likely a triandra, if single, these would most likely be catechu. Everyone has agreed.( But, whats the chance of maybe A. minuta or A. subacaulis ?)Just kidding :P

Hi Jeff,

If you look at the first picture, there is a little plant comming right out of the bigger one.  This little plant came out about 2 years ago.  I know the pix does not show it very well.  I know when palms are planted together like the kings at Home Depot and other nurseries for the different effect.  However, this one is a clumping variety.  I'm pretty sure, and I'm not dyslexic  :D
