I have been sick for several days and finally felt well enough  to go out and catch some freah air. Of course, for me, that means doing some nursery hopping :) I came home with this 5-gallon trachycarpus for only $5, it was in the ugly plant section at a local nursery! I don't know what's so ugly about it because it looks great to me.

    And finally, I surrounded it with tufts of volunteer carex testacea from nearby plants that went to seed. Hope you enjoyed the visuals!

    lol thats alot of water! Id buy every last trachycarpus they had for that price!

    Palms growing in my garden: Trachycarpus Fortunei, Chamaerops Humilis, Chamaerops Humilis var. Cerifera, Rhapidophyllum Hystrix, Sabal Palmetto 

    I don't know how much that will like the summer heat in Fresno?

    Very nice find, not ugly at all.  I wish I could find one that cheap! I paid triple that for one a similar size.

    Hah! The rootball was a bit dry so I figured a good soak would help it get establish.

    They do alright. They are pretty ubiquitous here. They even tolerate quite a bit of drought as established trees, although sufficient watering makes them look much better.

     Yeah! They're usually sold for around 20 dollars at that size. This was definitely a good find. 

    Nice bargain!  Looks good to me.  I'm sure it'll do well for you.  Maybe it was in the "ugly" section because it might end up looking like this:

    Trachycarpus do not mind heat. We have very Hot summers here in Croatia. Both days and nights are hot. Trachycarpus have zero problems with that. Just give them water and they will be fine.

    FIVE DOLLARS!? I feel ripped after buying mine (7 gal) for $40 here! That was a year ago though. Nice find, I would not pass that up!
